Importing bookmarks from html file ?

So I'm trying to import my chrome (groan) bookmarks from an html file to open in firefox (to get them BACK to chrome eventually, chrome won't import from html, but that's another story).

Before you say anything, I can't export my bookmarks as they don't exist in a browser anymore, they only exist in the .html output that Chrome spat out. NO browser (firefox, safari, chrome, camino etc.) seems to find this file acceptable to import them properly and this is using the whole, browser>import bookmarks from html etc. process that's inbuilt.

What am I doing wrong? I'm assuming there's something wrong with the file type. My bookmarks file is a .html but hyperlinks etc. don't display so I don't even know. I did this a long time ago and I can't get how I can't seem to work it out now.

Suggestions?

It sounds like the file might not really be an html file. Perhaps it is an old JSON firefox backup?



Right-click the file and select to open it using notepad (or I use notepad++ if you can't get notepad to open it). What is the very first line of the file?



An HTML file would have "" as the first line.



A JSON backup starts with: "{"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded""



If it is a JSON file then you should be able to import it into Firefox using:



If you change the file extension of that file to json, you should be able to restore that data into Firefox. Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Restore - Choose file...

In Firefox, press keys CTRL+SHIFT+B -- when bookmark dialog appears, click the button on the top that reads "Import and Backup" -- then, select "Import bookmarks from HTML"



Chrome sucks... it is an over-hyped and over-rated system memory hog... and isn't as secure as many seem to think. Once you've figured out how to import your bookmarks into Firefox, stick with Firefox.

i stumbled in this out as quickly as I have been given my first laptop 2 years in the past. you will could get carry of firefox on your laptop reason domicile windows internet explorer doesnt artwork with firefox. while they are no longer by an identical kind then you cant pass them.~Ashlee<3
