I sent to someone an e mail in my gmail account to ask them what a word meant. It was in a foreign language. They wrote back defining the word. To the left of this was about 5 or so advertisements from Google and all had to do exactly with this word.
Hmmm? wouldn't you say that Google is 'reading' my e mails that I are in my gmail account?

It's adSense technology. It may be neat to some, but it's an invasion of privacy on the other hand.
Even 'if' Google isn't directly reading your e-mail, it's still picking up bits and words of info. about you, that they let advertisers have access to. Probably, somewhere in Google servers, there's a folder with your account on it, and what keywords you put up a lot. That's the area where advertisers can push ads to you.
I saw this interesting movie about how Google is really invading our privacy and you should take a look : http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?vid=28a58f90-8e0b-4da8-a6fc-da68ac846154

i'm unsure if any email centers do not test your email. if actuality be told some robotic shows words/words like "eating out" and places all of the classified ads on the subject rely of eating out. Google runs on that - it does that in the time of searches too. it relatively is the way it makes money - clever classified ads. do not trouble nevertheless, human beings on no account examine it.

No, the adverts that appear scan what is in the e-mail and will pick adverts with key words in that e-mail.
Nothing to do with reading your account, don't worry. They will appear on lots of your e-mails where they find key content.
They do this as they want to show you adverts relevant to you, and take the chance that what is in an e-mail you sent or received is a subject that interests you. Google receives money every time you click on an advert so it makes sense for them to invent a system where you only see adverts that apply to you.
They're not reading your mail, just using the adsense system to pick words out and show adverts.
