I have been searching google for images and found an image that I would like to use on my website. I have tried to contact the owner of the site(where the image is) but they havent got back to me. I have been waiting for a response for over 2 months. Does this mean that I can legally use this image?

What is the law?

That depends. If the picture is in question is related to any game, movie, comic, band ect. chances are you will need permission. The legality is also made an issue depending on what the site your going to use the image on is about. If the site is professional based at all it is better to be safe. Also there are a lot of places on the net to find public images that anyone can use for anything. http://www.freeimages.co.uk/ is an example.

If your site is just for personal use, or for family or something like that you should be fine. If there is going to be any kind of transactions taking place ALWAYS make sure anything your using is free for your use.

The exact law http://www.utsystem.edu/ogc/intellectualproperty/portland.htm may be of use.

You can also put a comment on your site. that you have tried to find image ownership.

I think you don't have to wait for the owner's permission!
