I just updated my iPhone to iOS 8. And all my pictures got deleted.. What happens

My question is how have you got a hold of iOS 8 since it is publicly released until the 17th September? Or you using s developer beta in which case there is a reason it is a beta there are bugs in it still and you should have backup before hand. Apple have warnings about using betas that it will wipe all data on the device.

If you got the developer beta (obviously since the final comes out on 17th Sept.) then all you data will be erased as it is not OTA and thus you need to fresh install an IPSW on your iPhone. If you don't have a backup then all you Data like Photos are GONE FOREVER.

When you updated your iPhone with wifi, if your iCloud storage is full, and it will not make an iCloud backup with your iPhone. So your picture got deleted after the iOS 8 update.
If you have ever backup with iTunes or iCloud, just extract your pictures from backup with some apps.

When you upgrade your iOS then it will always be a new install which will delete all your personal data. You have to backup in iTunes before every upgrade.
