How do I change the gmail (gchat) display name when I chat ?

I want to change the name that displays when chatting

John Doe says:

It uses my first name but I go by my middle name. Since I use gmail for professional purposes as well, I don't want to change the name displayed on my outgoing emails (I use my full name: first, middle and last). S

So I want to keep the name I registered in and the same and is displayed in my sent emails, but change the name displayed when I chat.

Settings -> Accounts -> where it says your e-mail, it should also say Edit Info.



Click that. And go from there. There should be a line where it lets you change your display name.

if u change your name in google+ related to your mail id, then name will be displayed as per given by you both in gmail and chat list also

From inside of ur gmail Account ,click on settings ->Account & Imports->Google Acoount Setting->Edit profile from there u can change ur name thanks

Go to Settings>Account>Edit Info and you can put whatever name you want.
