When you create a GMail account, you also created a Google account.

Firstly, you should ask yourself. Do you want to delete Gmail only but keep your google account for other google services? Or, do you want to delete the whole Google account (inclusive of Gmail service)?

If you want to ONLY remove your Gmail service from your Google Account but keep your google account for other google services, YOU MUST HAVE ANOTHER GMAIL EMAIL ADDRESS PROVIDED BY OTHER EMAIL SERVICE PROVIDER because it will be used to sign-in to your Google Account. And, all your Gmail email messages will be removed.

If you want to delete your whole Google Account, you will be no longer can access any Google services which require a Google account.

To remove Gmail services from your google account, and keep your Google Account for other services, follow the following steps.

Step 1: Open another email account by using other email service provider (if you haven't do so).

Step 2: Go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount

Step 3:. Sign-in with your Gmail user name (no need to enter @gmail.com) and password.

Step 4: At the right side of "My products", click "Edit".

Step 5: Under "Delete a Product", click "Remove Gmail permanently".

Step 6: Under "Are you sure you want to delete.....", check "Yes, I want to permanently delete....."

Step 7: Enter your new email address under "New email address" (If you have set the alternative email address in your Gmail account, it will be automatically filled for you).

Step 8: Enter your current password.

Step 9: Click "Remove Gmail" button.

If you want to delete your whole Google account (inclusive of Gmail service), follow the following steps.

Step 1: Follow Step 1 to Step 4 under "To remove Gmail services..." stated above.

Step 2:Under "Delete Account", click "Close account and delete all services and info associated with it".

Step 3: Check Google Groups, Web History, iGoogle, Gmail, Google Talk, and Google Docs.

Step 4:Under "Please confirm this by providing your password.....", enter your current password.

Step 5: Check both "Yes, I want to delete my account" and "Yes, I acknowledge that I am still responsible for any charges incurred due to any pending financial transactions".

Step 6: Click "Delete Google Account" button.

Step 7: Say good-bye to all Google services that require a Google account.

Canceling your Gmail address

If you decide that you don't need your Gmail address anymore, and you're sure you won't want your username in the future, you can simply remove Gmail from your Google Account. Here's how:

1. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page, and open the Accounts and Import tab.

2. Click Google Account settings.

3. Click Edit next to My products on the right side.

4. Click Remove Gmail permanently.

Once you delete your Gmail address, you can't reactivate it, and you won't be able to retrieve any messages.
