how do I PERMANENTLY turn off Google Instant?

So far, all the suggestions offered [click 'off' button, go to perferences, change actual link for google] do not permanently turn off Instatn. It does slow my browser, but my main issue is that I do not want Google to limit my displayed results to only 10. I always set it for 100.
Google instant refuses to accept this. And Google Instant keeps turning back on.
I use Win7, I use ie9, firefox 3.5 and 4.0.1. Same issue.
BTW, so of the respounces to questions from newbies, were mean and vulgar. I hope there is some mechanism to stop that.

I don't think you can permanently disable Google instant, you can only turn it off. It's a shame because Google instant is the worst add on Google has ever invented.

Log in to your Google account and then save the search settings. If you stay logged in when using Google, it should keep that setting. I agree, its the most annoying "feature".
