Delivery Status Notification (Failure) Mail Delivery system gmail help!?

Hi,
I keep getting these Delivery Status Notification (Failure) Mail Delivery System emails in my gmail account. it says its from [e-mail]. then it says
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
then it shows my old hotmail address!
ugh its soo annoying! and if i scroll down and i see a mail that i got from a friend.

Did you set up Gmail to forward a copy of your messages to your old Hotmail address but now your Hotmail address is no longer working because you deleted it or didn't log in for a long time like 3 months? Other than that it could be something to do with spam, spammers sometimes spoof the senders address to make it seem like it was sent from your own email address.
