I need some better explanation how this works. So my situation would concern a webpage that I don't own with content on it that comes up under a search of my name. Now how exactly does this work? Would I give my name and then the link that comes up in the search that I don't want there? So in the end, the website still exists with the negative info but is removed from coming up in a search of my name on google?

Thanks for any help or explanation

Guide of How to use Google Webmaster URL Removal Tool

Did you accidentally expose some of your confidential data on the web? Or does your site have a lot of duplicate pages and content that were indexed and visible in the Google Search Engine Result Page (SERP)? Well, maybe this tip could enlighten you on how to solve these problems.

One great solution would be to use the Google Webmaster Removal Tool. This allows you to have control over all of your site’s content which has been indexed in Google. It is designed to remove exposed confidential data as well as the outdated and duplicate pages that you do not want to appear on Google SERP. Once applied, the pages that you requested to be removed will naturally drop out from search results over time.

Below are the things to consider before removing a URL in GWT.

You should have an account to Google Webmaster Tools.

Be sure that the page you are trying to remove from SERP is no longer important.

Incase you change your mind, make a back up for future use.

A page can also be removed by using one of the steps below:

If the page no longer exists, make sure that it returns a 404 (Page Not Found) or 410 (Gone) Header Status. This will tell Google that the page is no longer in use and should be cleared out on search results.

If the page still exists but you do not want it to appear in the search results, block it using robots.txt file to prevent Google from crawling the page.

You can use the “meta noindex tag“, Google will completely drop the page from the search results even if there are other pages linking to it (NOTE: In this part you need to be able to edit the HTML Source code of the page).

If you want to remove some url, then you should go in Google webmaster tool. There is option for url removal. Otherwise you can block them by robot text so that bot can't be crawled those urls.

Only the site owner can request index removal or updates from Google, who is just indexing public information. If the site is breaking the law, contacting the webmaster first is standard procedure, if they're unresponsive, contacting the site hosting company or the domain name registrar may get a response.
